Professional Ethics and the Treatment of Trauma

Professional Ethics and the Treatment of Trauma

On Friday, April 19, we packed the room with mental and physical health service providers for our “Professional Ethics and the Treatment of Trauma” training! We also had providers from Ontario, Maupin, Medford, and Astoria, Oregon who joined in for our first ever live webinar of a continuing education training.

Cynthia Sturm, Ph.D. presented on ethical principles as they apply to working with trauma populations. She works with adults and couples in her practice, and teaches and consults in areas of ethics and professional issues for mental health practitioners.

Her interactive training on Friday enabled lively discussions about ethical decision making, trauma informed care, patient safety, and vicarious traumatization. The diversity in the room also contributed to a dynamic learning environment. Social workers, massage therapists, counselors, chiropractors, and psychologists - all at differing stages in their careers and from various backgrounds - came together to learn how to better serve our veterans and military communities.

Attendees described Sturm’s presentation as “engaging,” “informative,” “thought-provoking,” and a “12 out of 10 stars!” We also received great reviews about the facilities and meals provided by the Oregon Medical Education Foundation Event Center.

We are sincerely thankful for everyone who showed up (in real life and online) and dedicated their entire day to improving how they support veterans, service members, and their families.

You can see the Professional Ethics Powerpointn and Professional Ethics Handout - you can see just how comprehensive and informative this training was for our volunteer and community providers! You can also view the entire presentation below.
