Board Chair
USMC Veteran
Partner, Westy Properties

I’m motivated to serve on the Board of Directors because I myself struggled with making the transition to civilian life after active duty and want to help others be successful. I believe mental health is as important as physical health and RVP’s approach and mission supports this personal ethos.

I wanted to Join RVP because I believe that making the transition from active duty to civilian is incredibly important to long term success. Each and every veteran that falls through is one that we could have helped. I want to see all my fellow service members succeed and I believe that RVP’s approach to this and the mission of ‘healing and health for our veterans and military communities’ is key to achieving that success.

Alyssa Fine

US Public Health Service Commissioned Corps, Nurse Officer - Policy Analyst

Through my work as a nurse and U.S. Public Health Service officer, I’ve had the privilege of serving diverse communities—including American Indian/Alaska Native populations, elders, incarcerated individuals, and people facing economic hardship. These experiences have given me a deep understanding of how systemic inequities affect access to care.
Health equity isn’t just a concept for me—it’s something I put into practice every day. I understand how essential culturally competent, trauma-informed care is for veterans, and I value the trust that must be earned to provide it effectively. My experience in uniform and in public health has given me insight into both the
systemic challenges and personal sacrifices faced by service members.

Katie Azarow

Therapist and Medical Licensed Social Worker, Shriners Children’s

Growing up in a military family, I have first-hand knowledge of military culture. This is one of the main reasons I chose RVP to begin
volunteering, as I knew that my experience with the culture could help to draw veterans in for mental health services, as there would be
some level of understanding about their lives and experiences.
