Caring for Comrades

Meet Allyson Kropf, a Licensed Professional Counselor in the Portland area.
As a veteran herself, Allyson Kropf’s volunteer service for RVP Clients is driven by her own experience with PTSD and struggle to find a counselor with whom she could relate. Allyson’s first therapist wasn’t able to effectively address her needs, but she eventually connected with a therapist who had also experienced trauma. Knowing that her therapist had a clear understanding of what she was going through made all the difference for Allyson. Ultimately, it’s how Allyson knew what she wanted to do with her career.
I like to make an impact in peoples lives. I want them to feel as good as I did when I was able to get the help I needed.
Allyson says, “I want to be that person that truly understands what it’s like, because that made the difference for me overall. And so, I wanted to be like that for somebody else, especially for military, because military people are just different. You have this connection and understanding that even though you’re not saying anything, they know you’ve had the trauma.”
