What Will Your Legacy Be?

Veteran and Active Duty Service Woman salute side by side

A bequest could be the most important charitable gift you ever make.

A bequest is a gift you make from your Will or personal trust. By leaving a bequest to your favorite charity, you create a personal, lasting legacy in your community.

Making a bequest doesn’t require a lot of money. Bequests of any amount can have an impact far greater and more lasting than you can imagine. Making a bequest in your Will to the Returning Veterans Project is a thoughtful and enduring investment in the health and wellbeing of Veterans, Service Members, and Military Families.

When you make a bequest to the Returning Veterans Project, you change lives. A bequest is simple to make, and it becomes a part of your legacy that will live on in others.

Our Legacy Circle

RVP’s Legacy Circle recognizes supporters who have informed us of their intent to leave a bequest to RVP. The Legacy Circle also honors the names and spirit of those who have already left such a gift.

How does it work?

  1. The next time you review your will, consider adding a gift to RVP.
  2. For assistance or information, call us at 503-954-2259 or visit our website.
  3. Let us know if you include RVP in your estate plans. We’d love to honor and thank you by including you in our Legacy Circle.

How to Make a Bequest

To make a bequest, include language in your Will or living trust that leaves a portion of your estate to the Returning Veterans Project. You can also designate RVP as a beneficiary of your retirement account or life insurance policy. It’s that simple.

Here are examples of how people designate RVP in their Will:

Sample Bequest Language

Specified amount:
“I give the sum of $_________ to the Returning Veterans Project, to be used for its general purposes.”

Percentage of your estate:
“I give [all, or __%] of the remainder of my estate to the Returning Veterans Project, to be used for its general purposes.”

Contingent bequest:
“If [Name of Primary Bequest Recipient] is not living, I give [all, dollar amount, or ___%] of the remainder of my estate to the Returning Veterans Project to be used for its general purposes.”

Dorothy Park

We honor Dorothy Evelyn Andersen Park for her recent bequest to RVP. Dorothy lived in Milwaukie, Oregon. She was an RV’er, avid golfer until age 90, and played on the Oregon Golf Team at the Public Links Amateurs National Championship. She worked as the Office Manager at Western Forest Ind. Assn. for 20 years and was preceded in death by her husband, a Veteran, R. Ellis Park. Dorothy was beloved, she supported many local causes, and we are grateful for her life and dedication to the healing journeys of Veterans, Service Members, and their Loved Ones.
