Location: Online

Continuing Education: 1.5 (Applied through NASW Oregon)

Cost: Free to RVP Volunteers and partnering clinics who are listed in our directory and who have an active MOU with RVP. We also welcome our OR/WA Vet Center and VA staff to join for free. All other community providers, please pay $29 (or apply to become a RVP volunteer provider).

Who Should Attend:
This training is open to all RVP Volunteer Providers, social workers, mental health counselors, and community providers.

What You Will Learn:

Review of past treatments for major depression, OCD and PTSD leave many still symptomatic. Medications and psychotherapy have their benefits and limits. TMS provides direct stimulation to the brain to allow for optimal healing and recovery from treatment resistant disorders. The discussion reviews the physics behind TMS and how it works on the brain causing improved metabolism and growth factors allowing for rapid recovery from otherwise chronic mental health conditions. When left untreated, these disorders result in high morbidity and mortality.

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify incidence of major depressive disorder in the US
  • What is Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) and how if works
  • Benefits and risks of TMS
  • How does TMS enact change in symptoms of depression
  • TMS indications and outcomes
  • Durability of TMS
