How Psilocybin Mushrooms and Therapy Can Work Together
Thursday, September 26, 2024
12:00PM - 2:00PM PDT
People talk more and more these days about the use of psilocybin for mental health. Psilocybin is still federally illegal, but the options for use are growing. Learn how to talk to clients about what's available in Oregon and how you might work with psychedelic professionals.
Location: Online
Continuing Education: 2 (Applied through NASW Oregon)
Cost: Free to RVP Volunteers, Vet Center and VA Staff and Partnering Clinics
$29 for Other Community Providers
Who Should Attend: This training is open to all RVP Volunteer Providers, social workers, mental health counselors, and community providers.
What You Will Learn:
Last year, Oregon Psilocybin Services (OPS) became the first program in the nation to legalize adult supported use of a federally illegal psychedelic for healing. The concept of using psychedelics for mental health is gaining traction and acceptance locally, nationally, and beyond, but there is a lot to know about this developing arena. Please come to learn more about the potential benefits and safety concerns of psilocybin, and the ethical role you can start playing if your clients ask about its use in combination with mental health therapy. Learn how you can start to collaborate with psychedelic professionals to support and facilitate clients’ improved mental health.
Learning Objectives
At the end of this presentation, the learner will be able to:
- Learn about psilocybin, including psychedelic properties, safety concerns, legal status.
- Identify the main diagnoses for which psilocybin is most supported for mental health improvement, according to research.
- Identify the components of a proposed model for psilocybin-assisted therapy (PAT) and the therapeutic modalities commonly used with it.
- Learn about the function of collaboration in PAT and how to start collaborating with psychedelic professionals.
CE Faculty
Lisa Ritter is a licensed therapist in practice in Oregon since 2015 and currently specializes in treating anxiety, disordered eating, trauma, and psychedelic integration therapy. Lisa is the co-founder of the Psilocybin Assisted Therapy Association (http://www.pataus.org), a nonprofit created to help educate and empower those who want to use psilocybin therapeutically, in Oregon where supported adult use is legal and in other locations where legality and circumstances differ.
PATA creates educational materials, provides and hosts trainings, including guest speakers, for the public and professionals. PATA also held the first collaboration-focused conference (the “Collaborence”) on May 18th in Portland, OR, where members of the public, licensed therapists, and psychedelic professionals converged to discuss improved access to psilocybin for healing.
