Training opportunity to learn more about Military Sexual Trauma (MST) and it's clinical impacts, as well as resources for Veterans who have experienced MST.

Who Should Attend: This training is open to all RVP Volunteer Providers, social workers, mental health counselors, and community providers.
What You Will Learn:
The goal of this training is to help enhance health care provided to Veterans by reviewing the specific health care needs of MST survivors and by highlighting strategies to improve treatment and patient-provider communication. This training also includes interactive exercises and videos to help you better understand the impact of MST, and links to key resources.
Learning Objectives
At the end of this presentation, the learner will be able to:
- Define military sexual trauma (MST) and describe the impact it can have on Veterans’ health and worldview
- Describe how to respond sensitively to disclosures of MST
- Identify treatment options that are sensitive to and/or addresses the unique impact MST might have on a Veteran’s life
- Describe the services VA has available to assist Veterans who experienced MST
- Monitor personal reactions, both over the course of treatment and within specific patient-provider interactions
CE Faculty
Aysha Crain, LCSW has been a social worker with the VA Portland Health Care System for the last ten years. She has been a psychotherapist on the Dialectical Behavior Therapy team and is currently a provider on the PTSD Clinical team, as well as a one of the Military Sexual Trauma Coordinators. Ms. Crain earned her MSW from Portland State University in 2012, and has been an adjunct professor in the School of Social Work at PSU since 2016. Her clinical interests include treatment of complex trauma, spiritual/religious trauma, interpersonal trauma, and supervision of clinical social workers towards licensure.
