Nature-Writing Workshop Fall/Winter 2023

Nature-Writing Workshop Fall/Winter 2023

Add to My Calendar

Free Nature Writing Workshop for Veterans. No writing or nature experience necessary! Meets virtually Thursday evenings, Nov 2 - Dec 14.

Theme: Transitions (Moving from dormancy to expansiveness)

Our workshop group will be a safe and trauma informed space to explore creative writing exercises, including prompts and discussions that build upon each other. This workshop is open to all genders, eras served, and levels of writing and nature experience.

This is a hybrid workshop, meaning we will be meeting weekly via Zoom together and participating in a weekly activity in nature in solitude (nature can include anywhere outside, including your yard, porch, deck, or a nearby park).

There will be a total of 6 sessions. You are strongly encouraged to attend each session throughout the program.

For group cohesion, we are limiting the size of this workshop to 25 participants. If capacity is reached, you will have the option of being included on a wait list for next session.

Instructors: Jamie Lorente and Krista Shultz

Jamie Lorente is a veteran, mother, and writer. She holds an MFA in Writing from Pacific University and has been facilitating workshops to help veterans write their stories, poems, and essays since 2016. Part of her writing process includes hiking and trail running in the forest. She also loves yoga, reading, and spending time near the ocean.

Krista Shultz is an Army veteran. In the military,  she worked in Military Intelligence as an Arabic Linguist and interrogator. She deployed to Saudi Arabia and Iraq in support of Desert Storm.

She holds a graduate certificate in Ecopsychology from Lewis and Clark College in Portland, OR. She recently retired from teaching to pursue a career in the outdoors and just earned her Masters in Outdoor Adventure and Expedition Leadership from Southern Oregon University in Ashland, OR. Her culminating experience in the program was to plan and implement a 5 week exploration of the Via Dinarica trail in the Balkans.

Krista is passionate about helping others to access and connect to the natural world. She enjoys forest bathing, exploring, hiking, kayaking, and writing.

Day of the Event: You will be sent the Zoom link to join prior to the workshop.
